In Her Own Words

When my husband was alive our family enjoyed a good life, but he died a few years ago and everything changed. We had to move out of our house and I could no longer afford to send my daughter Mahder to school. I felt like a failure as a mother. It was heartbreaking to watch my daughter wave goodbye to her friends as they walked to the classroom every morning. I now work all night shelling coffee beans in a factory two hours walk away, and when I get home in the morning I look after my son who is sick. When I can, I also clean other people's houses to earn some money to buy food.

You helped to re-enrol Mahder in school and pay for her uniform and books. She dreams of being a scientist when she grows up. My dream is simply that she will have the chance to make her own choices about her future.
