In Her Own Words

"It was a long, hot, bumpy journey and I was sure that my nephew was going to die in my arms. One minute he was shivering, the next he was sweating. He was vomiting and couldn't drink any water.

The bus driver was so worried that he drove straight to the doors of the hospital. A nurse in our village had diagnosed Grey with malaria and severe anaemia and said that we had to take him to the hospital in Morogoro, many miles away.

My family are very poor and we had to borrow the fare to take him on the bus - it felt like the longest journey of my life. The doctor there gave him some new medicine but it still took 4 days to make Grey better.

It scares me to think how close we came to losing him.

Hundreds of children in Tanzania die needlessly every day from malaria. Your money helped pay for the nurse's training that saved Grey's life. Comic Relief cash is also helping women to protect their children from malaria by providing them with mosquito nets and teaching them how to minimise the chances of being bitten.
