Judy, 37, Middlesex
"As a teenager I lived with depression and bulimia which triggered self-harm. This carried into adulthood but I still enjoyed a successful career in catering. I worked long hours and even though I had to take time off from work I never told anyone of my illness due to the stigma attached to mental health in the industry. A few years ago I decided to be honest about my condition, but I wasn't prepared for the response I got. One employment agency told me to lie about my condition, another ignored all my skills and experience and kept asking 'how would I cope?' As a result I think my career in catering is over but it is more important for me to tell the truth about myself than live a lie."
