We enjoy a challenge
To support the Sport Relief campaign seemed a very daunting task indeed
but, never types to shy away from a challenge, Conduit staff embraced the opportunity to help such a worthwhile cause.
A meeting of Conduit's key people was arranged to see if we could fundraise, take part in the Mile run and open the centre to help man the donations line! This meant taking a close look at the logistics from an IT perspective and considering the cost involved of manning the centre out of hours! Luckily all of the above was taken on board and a plan of attack commenced.
For starters we arranged fundraising events to generate money to help start us off with the costs involved. We had weekly dress down days, raffles and head-shaves to name but two! Then we recruited volunteers to run the Mile, we had thirty runners of various ages and ability all of whom had sponsorship from family and friends. Chris Thomas even ran in a heavy red dragon suit, (this is Wales after all!) - it was a hot day to say the least but, all for a good cause!
The most risky element of the campaign was to open our centre for the Sport Relief programme. We got around 70 people helping on the night, setting up the centre, staffing the phone lines, covering breaks and giving out endless drinks and spot prizes.
It was a huge success - an occasion that gave us all such a feeling of goodness and worth for doing so little, yet so much! Time is the most precious thing people can give and this night was a testament to the type of people Conduit has working for us. What a great team, it was fantastic - no hiccups at all. We're volunteering to do it all again next time!
