Grey – as told by his aunt Leokadia

“Grey had a fever so I took him to the village dispensary. The nurse there told me to take Grey to another, bigger hospital  - he had malaria.

“I struggled to get the bus fare, then as I took him, Grey started to shake and I was sure he was going to die in my arms. He had a high fever and was very confused. At hospital, he was given a quinine drip.  He still didn’t look better and I was sure we were going to lose him. After trying different medicines, by the fourth day he started to look better. We caught it just in time.

“I’ve learnt a lot from the nurses about health education - to come to hospital at the first signs of a fever, to use vouchers to buy mosquito nets and keep the house clean to stop the mosquitoes settling and make sure there is no standing water around.”

Your cash supports the Empower project in Tanzania which helps health care services to make sure that everyone has better access to medical treatment. Now, kids like Grey will be able to get medicine faster in the future so they’ll have every chance of survival, and can get treatment close to where they live.

£5 could buy a malaria bed net, distribute it to someone that needs it and make sure that they are educated on the importance of using it.
