Singer, songwriter, model, TV star, dancer and now mountaineer – is there nothing this woman cannot do!
After hitting the big time with Mis-Teeq, Alesha Dixon was crowned Strictly Come Dancing champion in 2007 and her single The Boy Does Nothing peaked at number 5 and spent over three months in the UK Top 20 the following year.
But it all could have been very different. Alesha was all set to take up a place at Loughborough University when she was approached on a train by a record producer, who asked her if she could sing. On the return journey she was approached again by someone who asked if she was in a band!
Alesha decided to put her degree on hold to see if she could make it and the rest is history.
It’s hard to find the words to describe how I feel about doing this because I’ve never done anything remotely like it before in my life.
I mean I go walking with my dog – who I’m going to miss like crazy - and I’ve been up some really high buildings – but taking the lift doesn’t really count does it?
I’m not exactly a seasoned camper either – I remember the first time I slept in a tent when I was at Primary School in Hertfordshire and it was great but I didn’t want to go to the toilet in the night! Other than that and camping in my mate's back garden once, sleeping on the side of a mountain is going to be a real eye opener I think!
Luckily though Cheryl, Kimberley and I have already decided that we are going to share a tent and being scared stiff with friends is never as bad as being scared stiff on your own is it?
There are so many reasons why I want to do this; to support Comic Relief’s amazing work and especially its fight against malaria, because it’s an amazing challenge both physically and mentally and then because the group of people who are doing it are great and I love the lot of them!
