A promising footballer Ben Shephard represented the South East as a teenager before getting his big break in 1998 when he hosted Channel 4's 'Control Freaks' - a preview of the week's teen TV output.
Soon after Ben joined The Bigger Breakfast and T4 which saw him interview everyone from The Spice Girls to Hugh Grant.
A move to ITV saw Ben front The Xtra Factor and also take up the role on The GMTV sofa which he has well and truly made his own.
Ben lives in South West London with his wife Annie and sons Samuel and Jack.
I think this is going to be a pretty full on and intense period up the mountain.
I’ve run the London marathon and have done plenty of camping so I guess I’m relatively well prepared in that sense, but can you really ever be prepared to climb at 20,000ft when you can hardly breathe? I’m not sure you can.
When Gary asked me to do this I didn’t hesitate – it’s an amazing opportunity to do something really intense and of course make a huge difference to a lot of people’s lives while we are at it.
You couldn’t ask for a better group to do it with either – its going to be amazing.
