The BT Red Nose Climb

Chris

Chris Moyles began his DJ career working for a hospital radio station in his native Yorkshire.

A move to local commercial station Aire FM saw him making tea for host Carol Vorderman before he continued his climb to the top via Radio Luxembourg and London’s Capital FM before joining Radio 1 in July 1997.

A meteoric rise from the 4am slot through mid-morning and drive time saw him arrive in the Radio 1 hot seat in 2004.

Awards and record listener numbers soon followed in abundance and the savior of Radio 1 was born!

I feel fine about the climb primarily because I’m not doing it yet – I did a half marathon six years ago and hated every step of it, genuinely hated every minute – so God knows what this will be like.

Gary Barlow rang me up one day and said 'Hiya mate would you like to climb a mountain' and to be honest I thought it was going to be such a surreal thing that I just couldn't say no.

Now that we're actually going to do it I wish I had said no and told Gary to go away and write a pop song or something. But I didn’t did I, I said yes and now I’m bloody going.

Camping wise I once dressed as a woman for the Friday Night Project and really enjoyed Gay Pride in New York a while back so I’m pretty well sorted on that front.

What’s really worrying me is how much I’m going to miss cigarettes, alcohol, my iPod, my Xbox and my girlfriend. Although not necessarily in that order – I really love my Xbox.
