Kelly Smith from Cardiff University raised an amazing £175 by spending the day in her pyjamas. She got sponsored to go to lectures, out shopping and even to the pub wrapped up warm in a duvet with a flask of hot chocolate. So, why not try having a duvet day yourself?
The money Kelly raised could pay for three young homeless people to complete a computer training qualification to give them the skills and confidence to find a job. It also gives them the chance to build themselves a secure and more prosperous future.
When their housemate went away for the weekend, Jack Greenaway and friends got sponsored to wrap everything in his room in foil and raised a fantastic £325.
The money raised by Jack could pay the salary of an ambulance driver for a year in Somaliland. Years of civil war have left the country’s medical services in ruins and hundreds of women die unnecessarily in childbirth every week. An ambulance driver provides a vital emergency service that saves people’s lives.
David Bradshaw organised a massive student radio event called Hearing Aid, involving a marathon broadcast and a sponsored walk and succeeded in raising a triumphant £4,478 – incredible!
This money could pay for new houses to be built for five families of children who have lost their parents to AIDS. Their new homes come with a tank that collects rainwater from the roof – meaning they have a chance to go to school rather than walking up to 12 miles each day to fetch water.
