Ernst & Young's National Fundraising Effort
What made you decide to fundraise for Red Nose Day 2005?
We are really proud to have been the honorary accountants for Comic Relief since 1999 meaning we process all their postal donations for
free.
In 2005 we raised nearly £100,000 to support Comic Relief in its fantastic work. We just believe that helping Comic Relief achieve its
aims is the right thing to do, and we have huge amounts of fun doing it too!
What did you do to raise money for Red Nose Day 2005?
We dressed down for a day, held a raffle, an online auction, a welly wanging competition, abseiled from the top floor of our headquarters
at London Bridge, sponsored our partners to do crazy things, had a cake bake, organised a balloon race, sponsored people to shave their
heads, had a dance-off, and lots lots more! We made Red Nose Day our main fundraising day for our firm for the year.
Where did you do it?
In our offices all over the UK.
How did you tell people about your activity?
We used all our internal communications channels including our intranet, plasma screens, posters and asked all our people to do something.
The local papers gave some coverage. Our name was mentioned in the press as part of the address for where to send money to too.
What were the big successes of your event?
The abseil raised a lot of money, and the welly wanging got lots of people involved.
What did you enjoy most about fundraising for Red Nose Day 2005?
Watching our senior management (called partners) squirm in 'I'm a partner, get me out of here!'
If you had one piece of advice you would like to give anyone fundraising for Red Nose Day 2007 what would it be?
It's not always what you do, it is the way that you do it that counts. Relatively small things can raise a lot of money if the enthusiasm
is there. And really think about the cost of doing something compared with how much it will realistically raise.
What does Red Nose Day mean to you?
Red Nose Day is a chance for us all to let our hair down and have some fun. It is great for morale and it feels good to raise money for
a great cause.
