Iona and Neil's Big Day
What made you decide to fundraise for Red Nose Day 2005?
We've always been big fans of Comic Relief. Our youngest daughter Faye has been taking part for the past 10 years.
What did you do to raise money for Red Nose Day 2005?
Neil and I got married in August 2005. After 'living in sin' for 20 years decided that we really didn't need any gifts, but knowing what
people are like there would be the possibility of some arriving. So as not to appear ungrateful we thought it best if we asked our guests
to donate to Comic Relief, and it would lighten the mood of our big day!!
After a sensible ceremony our daughters kindly handed out a red nose to each guest and asked them to take care of them as they would be needed
throughout the day. Everyone was asked to gather together for a group photo and put on the red nose. We were surprised at how many people did.
Some noses made it onto the stem of the wine glass and that was the moment when we knew this was going to be a funny day!!
The next occasion was for every toast made at the meal , it was, raise your glass,' Don your nose' and take a swig... not as easy as you
may think!! In the evening, Neil & I wore our red nose with pride for the first dance... and I think maybe a few more!
What were the big successes of your event?
The successes of the day were that we had a fab day and the feedback from our guests was just brilliant. They had never been to a wedding
like it. I smiled and laughed so much my face ached the next day. But the biggest success was that we raised £1,000 for Comic Relief.
Would you fundraise for Red Nose Day again?Would you fundraise for Red Nose Day again?
We will fundraise for Comic Relief again but we won't wait for our 25th anniversary!
If you had one piece of advice you would like to give anyone fundraising for Red Nose Day 2007 what would it be?
If I have one piece of advice to give it would be do something, be it big or small. You'll have a laugh, which is good for you and at the
same time be helping others, which is never a bad thing when we live in such a greedy world.
What does Red Nose Day mean to you?
Red Nose day means to us, time to raise some much needed cash and I have to admit, a night in front of the TV - Lenny Henry being a hero
in this house - and it usually is a night of laughter and the occasional tear from me!!
