It's Time To Fundraise!

There are lots of quick and easy ways to have fun and raise money with your early years group.

With a little help from the Gruffalo, we've put together some top fundraising tips and simple ideas that your kids will love - all to make sure you and your little ones have the best Red Nose Day ever.

Pay to Take Part

Ask everyone for a donation and, in return, they get to join in with a fun activity you’ve planned. A simple, enjoyable way for everyone to get involved.

Do Something Funny For Money...

  1. Fancy dress fun Set your own theme or get everyone to wear red for a donation to Red Nose Day.
  2. Mini disco Collect donations to take part in a mini disco with some funny tunes and even funnier dancing!
  3. Red-dy meals Ask for a donation from one and all to tuck in to a specially prepared Red Nose Day red-food feast.
  4. Swap shop Ask parents to bring in items they no longer need, or that their child has grown out of, and get them to pay a donation to swap for something else!

Top tips:

  1. It’s always helpful to provide a suggested donation amount - £1 for example.
  2. Let parents and carers know your plans (and remind them the day before) so they can prepare for your big event.
  3. Why let the little ones have all the fun? Get the staff involved too!
Get Sponsored to Raise Cash

Setting sponsored challenges for your children is a great way to raise money. Plus they’re simple to organise and always great fun to watch!

Do Something Funny For Money...

  1. Fruit and veg challenge From cherries and peppers to strawberries and beetroot, display a range of red fruit and veg and ask the little ones to get sponsored to see how many they can name!
  2. Joke-a-thon Ask your budding little comedians to get sponsored to see how many jokes they can tell in a minute. For a few joke ideas, just see the Gruffalo Red Nose Day Book.
  3. Staff silence Have a sponsored staff silence after hours and see how long you all can last!

Top tips:

  1. Dish out the sponsorship forms as early as possible. You can find them in your Early Years Activity Kit or download them here
  2. Set a time limit for your sponsored challenges so that sponsors know what they’re likely to achieve.
  3. Set a date for when you want the sponsorship forms returned – it’ll make collecting them much easier!

Get Collecting

There's nothing wrong with a good-old-fashioned collection for raising a bucket-load of cash. And it's easy to put a little Red Nose Day twist on it too!

Do Something Funny For Money...

  1. Make your own money box Have your children make and decorate their own money boxes – then take them home to wow their parents and collect a few pennies at the same time.
  2. Special lunch Pluck some party food ideas from the Gruffalo Red Nose Day Book, hold a special lunch and break out the treats and collection boxes!
  3. Joke-in-a-box For an idea your children will love, find a cardboard box large enough for your little ones to hide inside. Decorate it and cut an armhole in the side. The children then take turns to sit in the box and stick their hand out of the hole. When someone puts money in their hand, they pop up out of the top and tell a joke!

Top tips:

  1. Click here to download your money box template or use the one in you Early Years Activity Kit.
  2. Plonk it on reception so that parents and carers can donate as they please while picking up or dropping off their kids.
  3. For everything you need to fundraise, order your free Early Years Activity Kit now
