3 Peaks Africa - The Really Big Challenge!

14 February 2007

Four intrepid fundraisers are heading to Africa this Friday 16 February, to perform one of the most spectacular fundraising feats ever to be done in the name of Red Nose Day!

Steve, Lorraine, Andrew and Dan will attempt to climb the three highest summits in Africa in just three short weeks. On Friday, they will fly to Uganda, where they will scale Margherita (5109m); moving on to Mt.Kenya (5199m), and completing the trip with a short hike to the top of Tanzania's Kilimanjaro (5895m)!

Team leader Steve Perry is an engineer from Todmorden, Yorkshire. His previous charity fundraising epics include last year's Winter284 Challenge - the first non-motorised, non-stop ascent of all 284 Scottish Munros (3000ft summits) - that's 1500 miles on foot, solo!

Andrew Wilkinson, Lorraine McCall and Dan Bailey are no strangers to mountaineering. Andrew, a keen climber, hill walker and fell runner was last in Africa in 2001 with the British Army; Lorraine was the first (and so far only) woman ever to complete a non-stop self-powered round of Scotland's Munros; and Dan is an outdoor sports writer based in Fife who has scaled many of the world's mountain ranges.

Show your support for the team's amazing effort and help them beat their fundraising target.
