Comic Relief does Fame Academy - Colin Murray

Pressure Mounts At The Fame Academy

02 March 2007

Lyrics are being frantically learned and vocal chords twanged, as the doors to the Comic Relief Fame Academy get ready to open!

Thirteen students will take to the stage at 5.55pm on Saturday, live on BBC ONE, but with only eleven places in the Academy, who will make it through the Academy doors?

The contestants plan to give it their all, but the pressure’s mounting and the Academy teachers are increasingly concerned that nerves will get the better of them. ‘To actually sing in front of millions of people on a live TV show is one of the scariest things I’ll ever do in my life’ confesses Tara Palmer-Tomkinson.

Colin Murray is feeling extra pressure to do well after his former Radio One co-host, Edith Bowman, won the last series, ‘I’m feeling a lot of pressure after Edith’s success last time, but I’d just love to be the granny’s favourite.’

It has emerged that some performers have more singing experience that others, as football broadcaster, Ray Stubbs, admits ‘The only singing experience I’ve had was in 2004. I sang with football legend, Peter Reid in a bar in Lisbon during Euro 2004. We sang ‘Twist and Shout’ but there wasn’t much twisting, just a lot of shouting – people shouting ‘GET OFF!’’

There’s a lot to play for as the star contestants try and beat the £1.3 million that was raised for Comic Relief in the last series. Tune in on Saturday night to see the stars take to the stage and vote for your favourite celebrity to enter the academy!
