Around the lake in 80 ways!

Ian Woods, director of Cumbrian corporate events company Onesimus was set a challenge with a difference by his staff – all in aid of Comic Relief. The challenge, which took place over the 6th-7th March, was to get around the Lake District in 80 different ways and he did not disappoint. Among some of the more unusual ways that he be made his way around the Lakes were a motorised toilet and a 'Wonder Wheel', which is rather like a large inflatable hamster wheel. He also took to the air in a Hot Air Balloon, swam across Coniston Water and bounced along on a space-hopper. Talking about the challenge Ian said - "It's not the bet from his gentlemen's club that Phileas Fogg accepted, but a chance to help make a difference to peoples lives in the UK and across Africa."

Get Involved

People in the North East and Cumbria are doing some fantastic things in order to raise loads of cash for Comic Relief. Students at Peterlee have made a giant caterpillar with a huge red nose – they are hoping to tour the pitch at Sunderland over the weekend of the 17th-18th March in order to raise money. Meanwhile staff at Caterpillar Peterlee have got lots planned including a sponsored walk between St James’ Park and the Stadium of Light, a ‘win a day-off work’ raffle and a sponsored job-swap. It’s not too late for you to get involved and organise your own fundraising event. Click on the link below to find out more.

Gala Bingo

Don’t worry if you can’t get to the bingo as Gala Bingo Carlisle staff will be bringing the bingo to you! Gala Bingo will be touring across the community for Red Nose Day. Over 50 local residential homes and offices will be taking part in fun games of bingo in order to raise money for RND07.

Big Difference

Since Red Nose Day 2005, Comic Relief has spent almost £1million on almost 30 projects working in the North East and Cumbria.

One of the projects you've helped to fund is The Junction in Redcar. This is an open access service offering support, advice, counselling and safety for vulnerable young people aged 13-25.
Money raised through Comic Relief has gone towards a full time mental health worker at The Junction, currently helping over 1/3 of all The Junction's young people.
