Ford Kiernan visits Wellhouse Community Trust

Ford Kiernan, star of TV show Still Game, took time out of his busy schedule on Thursday 15 March to visit the ‘Inner-zone’ facility at Wellhouse Community Trust in Glasgow. The facility offers young people in one of the most deprived areas in the UK a safe-space to meet and includes a Café, IT suite and health and education workshops. Ford spent time touring the centre, talking to the young volunteers who help to put on activities and seeing first-hand how the money you raise can make a big difference to those most in need.

Fred MacAulay still going strong

Fred might be out of the Academy but that does not mean he has stopped working hard to raise money for Comic Relief. All this week his radio show have been doing some fantastic things to raise money. On Tuesday the ‘battle-bus’ hit the streets of Edinburgh drumming up support for Friday’s ‘The Big One’. Wednesday saw the Bus roll-on to Dundee before the team finally settled in Glasgow on Thursday to broadcast live from the CCA as part of the Glasgow Comedy Festival.


Rallyoke rumbles on to Glasgow

Chris Moyles and the Radio 1 breakfast team brought Karaoke to Glasgow on Tuesday 13 March, along with a host of special guests. Fame Academy star Fred MacAulay, Radio 1 DJ Reggie, Francis Healey and Dougie Payne from Travis and Busted star Matt WIllis all took to the stage to entertain the crowds. Taking their obsession with karaoke to a new scale, the infamous Breakfast team are spending a week touring the UK hosting rowdy karaoke nights to packed out venues filled with lucky Radio 1 winners. Scotland’s First Minister Reads Charlie and Lola

Scotland's First Minister Jack McConnell took time out from government business to give the nursery children in Edinburgh a special lesson on Fair Trade. Reading Charlie & Lola's "But I do know ALL about chocolate" to the pre-school group, Jack McConnell said he was really pleased to be working with Comic Relief as it raised money and awareness... and introduced the concept of Fair Trade.

  • Red Nose Day Wacky Races
    Saturday 10 March saw the first service depart from the brand-new airstrip on the Isle of Coll – but it was a service with a difference! To celebrate Red Nose Day, islanders organised a series of ‘Wacky Races’ on the site of the new Arinagour airport. Residents, who had been busy collecting old bicycle wheels and fish-boxes, brought along their creations for the 200m Fancy Dress, Home-Made Go-Kart Challenge. “Local people have been really entering into the spirit of the day,” said organiser, Gareth Holden.

  • The Big Jump
    Riders at Jumps Equestrian Centre, Carluke raised £420 by riding in a Rescue Relay event dressed in fancy dress.

  • River City
    River City’s Tony Kearney, who plays Scott, and Jenny Ryan, who plays Tina, helped John Beattie launch a very special River City competition. One winner will visit MacAulay & Co's live broadcast on Red Nose Day to collect a signed River City cast photograph, then be whisked off for a very special visit to the set and meet some of the cast!   • Wine Relief
    On Thursday 1st March members of the public joined wine expert Jancis Robinson at the Edinburgh Assembly Rooms for a wine-tasting evening with a difference. The evening, held in conjunction with some of the UK’s biggest wine-retailers, gave the 400 people invited the opportunity to taste (and buy!) some of the excellent wines selected as a part of this years Wine Relief initiative.

    From 31 January to 16 March Wine Relief is asking the nation to help uncork bottles of cash for the 2007 Red Nose Day campaign. This Comic Relief initiative will see the UK's biggest wine retailers donate 10 percent from the sale of selected wines to help tackle poverty and social injustice in the UK and Africa. Big Difference

Since Red Nose Day started £9.9 million pounds has been spent In Scotland, supporting over 500 projects across the country. 


Thanks to Comic Relief fundraising, young people in rural Perth and Kinross now have access to services especially made for them through Tayside Council on Alcohol: tailored programmes of support that might make an enormous difference to these young Scots.
