Stand Up for the Big One
For the last six weeks the BBC cameras have been out and about searching the West of England for the next big thing in stand up. The final took place on Sunday 11 March at Jongleurs Comedy Club in Bristol. The standard of all 8 finalists was very high but celebrity judges including Eddie Large & Gary Wilmot chose Jared Hardy from Somerset as the winner. Jared's fantastic prize is a slot on this year's comedy stage at Glastonbury. Casualty's James Redmond (Abs) drew a raffle & as a special surprise two of the Worzels performed 'I'm a Cider Drinker' due to be re-released shortly!
McFly made a flying visit to a Bristol school to tell schoolchildren about their recent trip to Comic Relief funded projects in Uganda. The John Cabot CTC in Kingswood were the lucky audience for a slideshow, a question and answer session and of course, lots of photos.
James Redmond visits Comic Relief Project in Weston-Super-Mare
James Redmond, who plays Abs in the hit BBC drama Casualty, took some time out of his busy filming schedule to visit a Comic Relief funded project in Weston-Super-Mare. Friend Community Mental Health Resource Centre offers a wide range of mental health services across North Somerset and has an ethos of user empowerment and involvement.

Zurich, based in Cheltenham, has truly gotten into the Red Nose swing of things, with a plethora of events planned! Fundraisers include a Diet Coke Break in their glass elevator (people pay to watch); Red Dress Down days (staff pay £1); Bingo in the canteen; a Coin Runway - putting sticky tape on the floor all around office to attach coins to - a Quiz; Cake bakes, and many more.

Since Red Nose Day Started £8 million pounds has been spent In the West and South West of England, supporting over 400 projects in the regions.
FRIEND (Western-Super-Mare) Ltd is a Community Mental Health Resource Centre which provides an advocacy service, supporting people to make clear to others what they need and in expressing their views on their care and their treatment. Friend also runs drop-in sessions and gives information advice and guidance to local people with mental health issues.
Shirehampton Community Action Forum provides a range of community and social activities in a semi-rural village, 6 miles out of Bristol, enabling local people to have more say in the way that local services are developed and delivered.
