3 Peaks Challenge
As we speak four intrepid fundraisers are performing one of the most spectacular fundraising feats ever to be done in the name of Red Nose Day!
Team leader Steve from Todmorden, Yorkshire, Lorraine, Andrew and Dan will attempt to climb the three highest summits in Africa in just three short weeks. First stop is Uganda, where they will scale Margherita (5109m); moving on to Mt.Kenya (5199m), and completing the trip with a short hike to the top of Tanzania's Kilimanjaro (5895m)!

Gareth Gates visits homeless project for Comic Relief
On Monday 12 March Pop Idol favourite Gareth Gates visited the NOMAD project to see how money raised by Red Nose Day is spent here in South Yorkshire. Gareth saw how NOMAD, based in Sheffield helps young homeless people. NOMAD aims to provide more than just a roof over their head, it provides a safe space and drop-in facility where basic needs can be met and advice given.
Lucy Pargeter launches Charlie and Lola at Meadowhall
On Sunday 11 March, Lucy Pargeter visited Meadowhall Shopping Centre, Sheffield to launch ‘But I Do Know All About Chocolate,’ a very special Red Nose Day Charlie and Lola book all about Fairtrade chocolate. But I Do Know All About Chocolate is the next book in the very popular Charlie and Lola series, and has been created by Comic Relief, Tiger Aspect Productions and Puffin especially for Red Nose Day 2007. In the book, Lola discovers where her favourite treat really comes from – and it’s not the sweet shop! Priced at £2.99 with £2.00 from the sale of the book going straight to Comic Relief.

New Dress code for School Bus Drivers
Big kids will be at the wheel on Metro’s My bus yellow school buses across West Yorkshire on Friday 16 March. But parents shouldn’t worry. It’s not a take over by budding sixth-form bus enthusiasts but the My bus drivers raising money for this year’s Comic Relief day. Keen to do their bit for Red Nose Day the drivers came up with the idea of getting their passengers to sponsor them to dress up as big kids when they drive them to and from school on Friday. Metro Chairman Councillor Stanley King said “Around 60 My bus drivers have so far confirmed they are going to dress up and we are expecting to hear from more as the week goes on so we hope they have lots of fun and raise plenty to help Comic Relief deliver real and long-lasting change to the poorest, most vulnerable people at home and across the world.”
Graham’s Big Bed Broadcast
Comic Relief is taking over the airwaves next week on BBC Radio Leeds, culminating in a twenty seven hour "bed-in", John and Yoko stylie on Thursday and Friday. BBC Radio Leeds presenter, Graham Liver will be broadcasting live from a double bed in the foyer of the National Media Museum in Bradford. The two days will consist of live music, comedy and a whole host of celebrities. Thursday's show will be filmed by Look North and BBC One will also be covering the event on Friday 16 March.
Showerstar Superstar
Are you the Whitney of Whiston? The Sting of Sprotborough? The Abba of Ardsley? BBC Radio Sheffield is looking for the region's singing talent. Will you be a Showerstar Superstar for Red Nose Day 2007? Come along to the shower cubicle on the BBC Radio Sheffield Bus and sing a burst of your favourite song. Find out where auditions will be held.
The most entertaining performers will be asked to perform at a special BBC Radio Sheffield Red Nose Karaoke night, at Ponds Forge on Thursday 15 March. For tickets call the BBC Action Desk on 0114 267 54 44.
Big Difference
Since the first Red Nose Day back in 1985 Comic Relief has spent over £8.9 million on almost 500 projects in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. One of the projects your money is helping is NOMAD in Sheffield, which offers support and practical help to homeless people and those in housing need. The project provides a safe space where basic needs can be met and advice given to improve young people’s health, self-esteem, and promote greater independence.
